Sooners Smother TCU, Stay Perfect, Suffer Costly Injuries

Fort Worth, TX — The top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners stayed undefeated with a 31-7 win over the TCU Horned Frogs, leaning on a ferocious defense and a punishing ground attack. But while the scoreboard shows dominance, the injury list has Sooner Nation holding its breath.

Senior DT Gracen Halton suffered a torn pectoral that will sideline him for 35 weeks, effectively ending his season — and possibly his OU career due to NCAA eligibility rules. On the offensive front, sophomore LT Logan Howland broke his collarbone and will miss six weeks.

Coach Lovie Mahawg didn’t mince words:

“It’s a tough game for tough people. You hate to lose warriors like Halton and Howland, but nobody’s gonna feel sorry for us, and I sure as hell won’t let us feel sorry for ourselves.”

A photorealistic image of fictional Oklahoma Sooners head coach Lovie Mahawg celebrating on the field after a win at TCU. He is wearing a crimson OU polo shirt and visor, grinning with a cigar clenched in his teeth, and raising his right fist in triumph under bright stadium lights with a blurred purple-clad crowd in the background.

Defense Turns the Screws

Oklahoma’s defense was suffocating from the start, holding TCU to -33 rushing yards and forcing two interceptions. Left Edge Marvin Jones Jr. was a wrecking ball with 7 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks. CB Kendel Dolby and LB Sammy Omosigho each had picks, while the defensive front harassed the Horned Frogs all night.

“If you can’t breathe, you can’t fight — and our defense kept their offense gasping all night,” Mahawg said with a grin.

Ground Game in Gear

The Sooners racked up 186 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground. Jaydn Ott led the way with 105 yards and a score, while Xavier Robinson added two short-yardage TDs. QB John Mateer threw for 169 yards and a TD to Deion Burks, though he was also picked off once.

“Running the football is like hitting somebody in the mouth over and over — eventually, they stop smiling,” Mahawg quipped.

Eyes Forward, No Excuses

Despite the injuries, Mahawg’s focus remains squarely on the mission ahead.

“We patch it, we fix it, we roll on. This team’s built to keep swinging, no matter who’s in or out.”

With the win, Oklahoma moves to 8-0, still holding firm at the top of the rankings. The road to the Big 12 title — and beyond — remains in their hands, but the margin for error just got thinner.
